# Cost Management

> See and fix what each pair cost you. Accurate costs are what make your profit numbers correct, so this is where you correct a wrong buy price.

## What you can do here

* Look up a product and see the cost recorded for each unit in stock
* Fix a unit’s cost when it was entered wrong (e.g. a typo on a purchase order)
* See your average cost when you bought the same shoe at different prices
* Flag a pair as damaged so it’s held back from selling

## Buttons, fields, and controls

| Control      | Where            | What it does                                                             | When to use it                                                                               |
| ------------ | ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Search       | Search bar       | Finds products or inventory units by product name, SKU, or size.         | Use it before editing costs so you are working on the exact unit.                            |
| View units   | Product row      | Opens the unit-level cost history for the selected product.              | Use it when average cost looks wrong or you need to correct one physical pair.               |
| Edit cost    | Unit row actions | Changes the stored unit cost for one inventory unit.                     | Use it to correct a typo or wrong purchase-order cost before profit reporting depends on it. |
| More actions | Unit row actions | Opens additional unit actions such as damage or cost-history operations. | Use it when the unit needs more than a simple cost edit.                                     |
| Save         | Edit cost window | Commits the corrected unit cost.                                         | Use it after verifying the new cost and reason for the correction.                           |

## How to: Fix a wrong unit cost

1. Search for the product by name or SKU.
2. Find the unit with the wrong cost.
3. Edit the cost to the correct amount and save — profit on its future sale will now be right.

  A pair was logged at $18 instead of $180. Correct it to $180 here so it doesn’t show a fake $282 profit when it sells.

## Good to know

* Each pair you own is its own “inventory unit” with its own cost — that’s how profit stays accurate when you restock the same shoe at different prices.
* Your costing method (Average or FIFO) decides which cost is used when a pair sells. Average blends your buy prices; FIFO uses your oldest stock first.
